International High Jump contest

Reviews of the 1999 edition

Four high-jumpers over 2,15m!

Excitingly close battle for podium

The excellent performance of Christian Rhoden (GER) during the 1998 edition of the Top High-Jump contest could not be repeated, but instead the numerous crowd was pleased to assist to one of the most exciting finals seen in Luxembourg for years. The podium places were uncertain up to the last attempts over 2,20m.

Another "never seen" was that two CAD-athletes passed 2m in one and the same high-jump contest.

Unfortunately, last year's second, Hervé Ndi Ndi had to quit the contest at 2,15 after a severe injury at his ankle.

Here are the detailed results of this edition:

1 Patrick de Paepe Belgium 2,18 PB
2 Frédéric Schintz Switzerland 2,15
3 Marc Mandy Ireland 2,15
4 Moïse Siba France 2,15
5 Hervé Ndi Ndi France 2,12
6 James Briley United Kingdom 2,09
7 Jens Thielbär Germany 2,09
8 Claude Schaeffer CAD 2,03 PB
9 Oliver Hummer Germany 2,00
10 Sam Besch CAD 2,00 PB
  Jilles Lucas Belgium 2,00 SB

Amazing Irène Tiendrebeogo (MC)!

Maxiniuc and Astafei take podium places

The very spectacular ladies' contest was dominated by young Irene Tiendrebeogo from Monaco and born in Burkina Faso. She was able to increase her personal best by 2cm, whereas Adriana Maxiniuc, the second of the contest, even increased it by 5cm! Alina Astafei, for her part, had a good comeback after a longer injury break.

CAD's Sheila Martin finally got to pass the bar at 1,70! New club record!

Here the overview of the contest:

2 Adriana Maxiniuc Germany 1,92m PB
