We were quite lucky with the weather. Although heavy clouds were in the sky almost all day long, there were only a couple of rain drops that fell just at the very last attempt of Andrey Sokolovskiy. Only some strong wind gusts made the life of the athletes difficult.
Our young decathlon athlete, Wesley Charlet, also showing special skills in highjump, opened the field, and appeared with the coolness he is known for. Unimpressed and motivated by the crowd and the music, he showed a very good competition up to 1.90m, only 2cm below his personal best, but then unfortunately could not pass the next height.
At this same height, the next competitor, Jan Sommerschuh from the Czech Republic also entered into the competition. With no miss done until 2.05m, he had three fails at 2.10m and had to leave. At this moment all jumpers had started, and all remaining 6 jumpers passed 2.10m at the first attempt.
At 2.15m, three jumpers showed difficulties, especially Russian Pavel Fomenko had trouble finding a good approach with the varying wind conditions. It then happened that Pavel, together with Czech Michal Saman and William Woodcock from the Seychelles missed 2.15m, and finished the contest with 2.10m. Especially to Pavel this was disappointing, as he already jumped 2.27m this year.
Boubacar Serre from Burkina-Faso, with his powerful and unique technique, passed 2.15m at the first attempt, and suddenly was very close to his season best (2.18m). The next height of 2.19m gave him the chance to improve it, but unfortunately it should not happen in Dudelange that day. The Ukrainian jumpers, Yuriy Krymarenko - world champion of 2005, and the best known Andrey Sokolovskiy with a personal best of 2.38m, passed 2.19m with very nice jumps. Especially Andrey, who was invited only 2 days prior to the competition as a result of the last-minute cancellations of Oleksandr Nartov and Nicola Ciotti, gave the impression to be highly motivated and to be in a good shape. Both jumpers demonstrated how speed in the approach will help getting a good jumping impulse. Both feeling confident, they chose to skip 2.22m and pass directly to serious stuff: 2.25m!
After misses in the first attempt, Andrey cleared the bar in a very beautiful second attempt, but Yuriy missed. All the support from the spectators during his third attempt however was not enough to bring him over this height. Andrey improved his season best from 2.20m to now 2.25m. The next height he wanted to try was 2.30m, something he had already jumped many times before, but an enduring pain in his ankle prevented him from succeeding again.
With 2.25m, Andrey now occupies the 4th position in the Top Highjump Hall of Fame, behind Christian Rhoden, Gennadiy Moroz and Tomas Ort.

During the first Promo-Jump in the history of the Top Highjump contest, 5 young female local highjumpers could profit from the special conditions the Top Highjump competition is known for: many spectators, loud music and a good atmosphere.
Young Noémie Pleimling showed again how much potential she owns: even with still some weaknesses in her technique she passed again the excellent height of 1.66m, thus mostly confirming her personal best of 1.71m she established only two weeks before at the Youth Cup in Schifflange. Probably that she could also have jumped higher in Dudelange, hadn't she already cumulated 11 attempts when attacking 1.68m! Let's hope she will continue on this way and stay free from injuries!
Michèle Gaetti as well showed a very nice competition, passed a very good height of 1.60m, her personal best, but then at 1.63m had to accept that this was too high for her at the moment.
Another personal best was achieved by Anne Flies, who improved to 1.54, and the remaining two jumpers, Cathie Zens and Nadine Lanners (Junior), both jumped 1.50m. This competition showed that we do have young talented highjumpers, and let's hope they will all continue enjoying this sport for some time!
